developmental

Developmental editing, sometimes called substantive editing, is an in-depth look at the story itself, the characters and their journeys, plot, motivation, and more. It helps tighten up the story, and can even help move you forward when you're stuck or aren't sure how all the pieces fit together.

copy editing

Copy editing involves reading for continuity, repeats, conflicting information, syntax and word choice, and tone, as well as checking for surface level concerns like punctuation and spelling.

proof reading

Proof reading involves reading through for grammar mistakes, spelling issues, and punctuation. This should be the final step in the editing process.
